Teaching – and Playing

leave a comment »

There are seven rooms, five class’s total. We split up and each teaches a section of the class each day.

After a day full of dancing, playing, teaching, and singing, we head down to the local health clinic. There is a feeding program that feeds roughly 27 malnourished children in the area, and we head down to try and help out with dishes or clinic work.

During our stay- we became incredibly close to the children we spent most of our time with. It was heartbreaking to leave them all!

Daragaon

Daragaon:

There is no running water or electricity in the village, so we go to bed shortly after dark, and rise in the morning with the “sun”.

We wake up- have tea with the three girls who live in the house (there are 12 total family members living in the house that we are staying at) including the kids, Selena13, Silma 8, and Jyoti 15. We slowly make our way to breakfast, which is cooked over fireplace stoves, and eat AMAZING Indian and Nepali food. In the 2+ weeks I have been in India, I have not had a meal that I dislike yet!

Darjeeling / Bengal Passage

Aug. 29 ’07 Darjeeling, West Bengal, India

Everything has been very smooth. All baggage has come through; we have managed to get exactly where we need to go!

It’s been amazing. Almost, like I never even left this area of the world, although the last time I was here was a year ago. It’s crazy how fast you fall into another culture and get comfortable. My Nepali is starting to come back. … we are going to make our way to Rimbick tonight, and then start trekking into Daragaon Village early tomorrow morning.

Farewell from Beautiful Boudha

leave a comment »

Sunday Nov. 25. Farewells
Last blog… from Bouda.

Amala was so special to put together this farewell dinner on my last night at her house – she even hired a friend to cook a carnivore’s delight with chicken, fish, goat, buff and meatball appetizers. They had beer and wine.

Good conversation and promises to keep in touch. Special family and friends who have helped me make the most of my experience here. Lots of fun good bye’s with gifts from Dr Namgyl, Vidhea and Yanik, and Tias and Megan, and Amala and her family – you know how you always say you will email – hope i can stay in contact with them.

I have medical projects continuing with Drs. Koirala and Namgyl that should be fun.
